Through its Health Portfolio, the Transnet Foundation, in collaboration with Transnet Engineering, OSELF and the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Faculty of Health Sciences – Discipline of Optometry, officially launched two new optometry clinics at the Howard College and Edgewood campuses. The clinics have been designed with a dual purpose: to provide affordable vision screening and optometry services to surrounding communities, while also serving as experiential training platforms for final-year optometry students. Aligned to the WHO 2030 “In Sight” Strategy, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving access to eye healthcare, advancing clinical education and strengthening community impact. For the Transnet Foundation, the project further strengthens its community development footprint and builds on the legacy of its flagship Transnet Phelophepa healthcare programme.
