This initiative marks the culmination of a heartfelt internal campaign, with Transnet employees coming together to collect school shoes and identify beneficiary schools within their divisions.

Transnet continues its annual Shoes on Feet Campaign — an initiative that brings hope, dignity, and confidence to learners through the simple gift of a new pair of school shoes. As part of the ongoing handover programme, Transnet visited J N Tulwana Junior Primary School in Kariega and Dumani Primary School in Motherwell, Eastern Cape, where 850 deserving learners received brand-new school shoes. The clinics have been designed with a dual purpose: to provide affordable vision screening and optometry services to surrounding communities, while also serving as experiential training platforms for final-year optometry students. Aligned to the WHO 2030 “In Sight” Strategy, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving access to eye healthcare, advancing clinical education and strengthening community impact. For the Transnet Foundation, the project further strengthens its community development footprint and builds on the legacy of its flagship Transnet Phelophepa healthcare programme.
The Transnet School of Excellence has officially been handed over to Chipcor Holdings, marking a bold new chapter as it becomes the Africa School of Excellence.
The vibrant handover ceremony in Germiston celebrated this milestone, as Chipcor Chairman and Chippa United FC owner, Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi, pledged to transform the institution into a world-class sports academy and a leading tourist destination for the Ekurhuleni region.
