Due to its geographical position in the center of our (TFR) rail network, the CentralCor serves as a vital thoroughfare and pivotal connection point for other corridors, fulfilling an enabling role for cross-network rail traffic. Commodities moved through this corridor include chrome, coal, iron ore, manganese and time-sensitive traffic of containers and vehicles. It plays a significant role in bolstering the manufacturing industry, particularly automotive, by providing essential rail connectivity and services to the automotive hub and container terminal in Pretoria.
The corridor propels regional integration efforts while serving as a crucial North-South interface through Botswana via the Krugersdorp and Mahikeng diesel line. This corridor runs through four provinces, namely, Mpumalanga, Free State, North-West and Gauteng. It has a network that includes a branch line infrastructure that supports the maize-triangle region in areas such as Lichtenburg, Coligny and Vryburg. The through traffic and the enabling zones include Sentrarand, Isando, Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom. Its forwarding traffic originates from Mafikeng, Lichtenburg, Vereeniging, Botswana, Pretoria, Thabazimbi and Krugersdorp.
